APCC observes ‘Jan Aakrosh Divas’, demands JPC probe into demonetization

ITANAGAR, Nov 28: Joining the country-wide agitation “Jan Aakrosh Divas” to protest against the govt’s demonetization move, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today staged a mass demonstration here slamming the ruling dispensation at the Centre for withdrawal of high-value currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 in a move to curb black money and corruption.

Hundreds of Congress workers led by senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and APCC president Padi Richo holding placards, banners in their hands, joined the protest at Indira Gandhi Park tennis court here.

Alleging “selective leak about the demonetization” (move) which it described the biggest scam ever after country’s Independence, the APCC demanded a high level enquiry by constituting a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on demonetization.

With the united Opposition continuing to stall the proceedings in both houses of Parliament, it further demanded that the PM should address the nation in the Parliament and name those who died due to demonetization and announce immediate relief to the deceased families.

The APCC also reiterated its demand that “no restriction should be made to all the tribal and hilly states of the country on cash withdrawal in order to ease the sufferings of the common masses.”

While addressing the protesters, Tuki, Richo and senior leader Jarjum Ete strongly condemned the demonetization policy of Modi govt “without proper planning” and its “way” of implementation of the policy, describing the same as “anti-people”.

They said Arunachal Pradesh has been the worst sufferer amongst the States of India as most parts of the State do not have banking and postal services due to communication bottleneck. However, where there is banking and postal services facilities, long queues are seen outside the banks and ATMs which has intensified anger and frustration in the public.

“It’s an absurdity on the part of the Modi govt to have announced the demonetization overnight,” Tuki alleged.
