World Hearing Day observed

ITANAGAR, Mar 3: The Arunachal Pradesh State Health Society (APSHS), National Program for Prevention & Control of Deafness (NPPCD), Department of Health & Family Welfare and the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs jointly observed the World Hearing Day at Naharlagun today.

A free endoscopic ear screening camp by a team of doctors led by Dr T Taki, Sr ENT Surgeon supported by Dr Jego Ori and Dr K Riba, ENT Surgeons was organized as part of the observance.

Altogether, 133 patients were screened and hearing aids were distributed through Department of SJETA. In addition to that, IEC activities were conducted along with distribution of IEC materials.

Dr Ori emphasized that about 60% of childhood hearing loss are treatable and more awareness of the people is required in this aspect.

Dr P Ringu, SNO (NPPCD) informed that the main objective of World Hearing Day is to enhance public awareness about preventing various ear problems and controlling of curable deafness amongst all sections of public, particularly elderly population and persons residing in slum clusters and rural areas. Dr R D Khrimey, CMS and Dr D Raina, MS also attended the programme.
