APSACS holds Advocacy Meet on basics of HIV/AIDS, STI/RTI with IT officials

Itanagar, Dec 6: A one-day Advocacy cum Sensitization Meeting on basics of HIV/AIDS and STI/RTI was organized with officers and staff of Department of Information Technology by Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS), Directorate of Health Services at the premises of Civil Secretariat here today. More than 50 officials and staff of the department attended the meeting.

In his keynote address, APSACS Project Director Dr Riken Rina while giving a brief on HIV/AIDS scenario of State and the nation informed about the signing of MoU between NACO (National AIDS Control Organization) and Ministry of Information Technology to reach out to large numbers of people through Common Service Centers with information on prevention and services of HIV. He also talked about the facilities available for PLHAs (people living with HIV and AIDS) in the State like, free treatment, free laboratory investigation and free accommodation (guest house) during their treatment in Capital Complex.

Jt Director (IT) H Taka expressed gratitude to APSACS for organizing the important programme with the department and promised to extend all possible help to APSACS in the prevention of HIV/AIDS in State through the services available under the Department of Information Technology.

Attending the programme as a resource person, Dr Moli Basar, MO, ARTC Plus, TRIHMS, Naharlagun in his presentation highlighted the mode of HIV/AIDS and STI/RTI transmission and the ways to prevent the same. He highlighted the facilities available for HIV/AIDS testing and STI Clinic. He also informed about ARTC Plus centre for PLHAs and also about Link ART Centre.

APSACS Dy Director Tashor Pali attending as resource person requested the IT Department to explore all possibilities for prevention of HIV/AIDS through IT platform like bulk SMS, developing web portal and involve APSACS in their programme in districts. He also stressed on the importance of mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS activities with any other Govt departments of the State. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks by Karjo Basar, Asst Director (M&SP), APSACS.
