Namsing shows the way: conducts plantation, clean drive, awareness on drug abuse, social issues

PASIGHAT, Dec 6: In a bid to sensitize their fellow villagers including students and youths about cleanliness, ill effects of drugs, social issues like early marriage etc, the Namsing village’s Govt employees working across the length and breadth of the State carried out a three-day intensive awareness programme at their village from December 1 to 3 last.

During the programme, the villagers of Namsing under Mebo sub-division were briefed about drug abuse and its ill effects, adverse impact of early marriage, improvement of quality of education, use of sanitary latrines constructed under SBM and to discourage open defecation, protection of forests and wildlife, etc.

The programme was attended by DFO Mauling National Park, Boken Pao, retired Director of Elementary Education Bodong Yirang, IAF Group Captain (Retd) Mohonto Pangging and Dr Lung Perme as resource persons. Jalash Pertin, ADC Sagalee who was among the senior Govt employees from the village laid emphasis on improving the village and its citizens.

The Namsing village has declared serious punishment for those who are found using drugs and cultivating cannabis and poppies. They have now discouraged early marriage among the youths which was a major reason for school dropouts in villages. Besides emphasizing on using modern agricultural methods to reap better harvest of cereal and cash crops, the meeting also resolved to protect forest and wildlife by stopping hunting in D Ering Wildlife Sanctuary. The youths were also motivated on taking up entrepreneurship as a career on the lines of Elam Industries, managed by Group Captain (Retd) Mohonto Pangging.

During the programme, more than 150 tree saplings were planted to beautify the surroundings of village general football ground.
