Siang Cup-2017 gets underway with a motivational camp

OYAN, Dec 7: A football tournament for Siang Cup-2017 got underway at the Donyi Polo Tea Estate here today with the launch of a motivational camp at its football ground.

Addressing the gathering that included locals, participants and students of the area, former Chief Minister Gegong Apang said that the very purpose of offering such a platform was to give an opportunity to the young girls to go for a higher level and play football.

He said that everything began from scratches and hoped that a good and strong team would come up that would go on to play football at national and international levels.

He said that this is a rare opportunity for various participating teams who would be motivated by the organizing team of Donyi Polo Mission and experts from Manipur and state who would train them for a next few days.

Appealing the participants to maintain team spirit and play the game with right earnest, Apang wished them best of luck for their future endeavour.

He said that it is a happy moment that two teams from Donyi Polo Vidya Bhawan and Donyi Polo Mission School for Visually and Hearing Impaired are also taking part and hoped that they would bring laurels for their area and state in future.

Event Coordinator Mone Apang while highlighting the purpose of organizing such tournament said it is an opportunity to promote the game for the young girls. It is not about winning the game but building individual personality so that her all-round development comes through football. This cup may bring the students of all community together and create unity among all, Mone felt.

Mone said that it was our endeavour that we have a mission to bring a team of young girls from our state who can represent the district, state, country in the world arena in the field of football.

Soccer Foundation of India (SFI) Chairperson Bikaram Thockchom, in his address, said that we want to make a centre of excellence in the region and wanted that India take the women’s football to international arena such as FIFA World Cup.

Arunachal being a peaceful state and have potential to unite all in sports as medium of spoken is Hindi which is liked by many and would be an opportunity that the Arunachal may connect all through sports in time to come. He said that football is a language and need to learn though grassroots and so, we have planned to build it right from teenage level and appealed all to learn the game through daily yoga for a healthy living.

The Siang Cup-2017 being organized by Donyi Polo Mission in coordination with SFI shall continue till December 12. The camp will be giving training to 12 the participating teams from Pasighat, Oyan-1 & 2, Pame, Aalu, Sika, Bamin, Pakora, DPVB, DPHI, DPTE-2, DWFA, Adro (Manipur) and all are under-18

Friendly matches were played between Manipur and Pasighat, and Oyan and TPTE.

Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering and former Union Minister Omak Apang, local officers, public leaders and football enthusiasts among others were present at the inaugural ceremony.
