PASIGHAT, Dec 11: Coming in strong defence of Power & Industries Minister Tamiyo Taga, who is facing the heat of Siang District Headquarter Welfare Committee (SDHWC) of Pangin for his alleged move to shift the proposed permanent HQs of Siang district to Boleng from Nyobo (Perang Lampang), the Kuri Dajum Olung Welfare Society (KDOWS) has vehemently condemned the recent ‘violent’ protest by the SDHWC at Pangin against the Minister, terming it ‘undemocratic’.

In a press release on Sunday, KDOWS president Tagam Tamut said that the KDO Welfare Society comprising of several clans including ‘Taga’ has strongly condemned the alleged undemocratic protest, provocative postering against the Minister at Pangin general ground on December 6 last.

The KDOWS further claimed that the Donyi-Polo priest who had carried out the rituals of curse and sorcery against Taga has misused the basic doctrine of Donyi-Poloism, its faith, belief and practices which is very undemocratic and condemnable. It cautioned that in case of any untoward incident on the life of Taga in future, the priest along with SDHWC leadership will be held responsible.

Stating that the protest they had at Pangin was not undemocratic but a genuine one, SDHWC general secretary Tatok Panor said, “We are helpless now as our properties including plantations of all kind, agricultural land and channels worth more than Rs 200 crore had already been cleared off for establishment of Siang district HQs at Nyobo (Perang Lampang) after Govt the notification with Pangin declared as temporary headquarters of Siang district till the construction of permanent structures at its permanent site, Nyobo (Perang Lampang. Minister Tamiyo Taga is trying to change the district HQs now and so, we protested against the move,” added Panor.

Meanwhile, the Minister has denied the allegation of SDHWC and said that the ‘present’ decision whatever State Govt is taking is based on the High Power Committee reports.

“I have nothing to do with the change of district HQs and dragging my name in whole issue along with cursing me and my family while conducting rituals is very unfortunate,” added Taga.

“Burning of effigy and democratic means of protest is everyone’s right in a democratic country like India, but conducting rituals and sorcery of a religion cursing and threatening is too much which need to be condemned by all quarters,” said Taga’s wife, who was seemingly worried over such act of SDHWC.
