‘Food Safety on Wheels’

Itanagar, Dec 22: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India has provided Arunachal Pradesh with one Mobile Food Testing Laboratory. These mobile units are called “Food Safety on Wheels”.

Apart from conducting simple tests from common adulterants in milk, edible oil, and other items of food of daily consumption, the mobile food testing laboratory would also be used for awareness building around food safety, hygiene and promoting healthy eating habits in citizens at large and for training and certification programme for food handlers and supervisors in food business, particularly petty food business operators.

In addition, these mobile units would help the field functionaries in the State to enhance their outreach and conduct surveillance activities even in far-flung areas.

The mobile unit since its launch on 26th September 2017 has collected many surveillance samples in the Capital region and its adjoining areas. During the next couple of months the vehicle will cover Lower Subansiri, Lower Siang, West Kameng, Lohit, Namsai and such other places wherever the road condition will be conducive for the vehicle.

Both food business operators (FBOs) and general public may submit samples of milk, iodized salt, edible oils etc and get on the spot test reports, when the vehicle goes to their locality, it was stated in an official release here today.
