Sports, literary and cultural events mark ABSU meet

PASIGHAT, Jan 2: Various sports, literary and cultural events marked the All Borguli Students Union (ABSU)’s annual meet-2017, which was organized in the last week of December.

In the literary section, competitions like essay writing, quiz, extempore speech and drawing were held. While sports events included football, volleyball, tug of war, cock fight, 100 mtr race, 1500 mtr race, blind hit, etc with cultural events comprising solo, duet, group dances and solo & duet song competitions.

According to ABSU president Biswajit Tayeng and general secretary Mibom Borang, football was won by Lokburung house, volleyball by Tatsing house, and tug of war by Gane house in groups with some individuals winning single categories.

The overall winners of the meet were Lokburung House (1st) and Gane House (2nd). These houses were named after name of rivers flowing around the Borguli village which feeds irrigation water to hundreds and thousands hectares of paddy fields in the east (Lokburung) and gives livelihood through fishing in the west (Gane).

The prizes were handed over to the winners by Bapiyang Tayeng, Anchal Samity Member from the village who appreciated the good effort by ABSU executives and urged them to organize such meet on annual basis to promote unity among the village students and also to strengthen e
