Wildlife meat, articles seized

ITANAGAR, Jan 4: A team of Forest officers from Banderdewa Forest Division on Wednesday seized several wildlife meat and articles during a day-long search operation carried out at Midpu forest check gate, Doimukh from vehicles coming from different regions covering Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Upper & Lower Subansari, East Kameng and Sagalee of Papum Pare district.

The seized wildlife articles included huge quantities of full body animals and meat pieces of Himalayan civets, deers, wild doves, green barbets, wild fowls and wild squirrels.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the offenders under various sections of Wildlife Protection Act 1972, informed DFO Neelam Nedo, who headed the forest team including ACF Mito Rumi, RFOs D Dastidar, Chan Buru, Tanga Murtem & Mayuk Lamgu, and frontline staff of Banderdewa and Doimukh Forest Ranges.

The seized wildlife carcasses were later destroyed in presence of magistrate Ibom Tao (SDO, Doimukh) and OC Doimukh PS Inspector B Tangzang.

Further during the course of checking, the Forest team also collected revenue of Rs 25110 as royalty and penalties on seized minor forest produce transported without permits.
