RTI activist alleges ‘anomalies’ in SSA implementation

ITANAGAR, Jan 5: Pointing out the various ‘anomalies’ in State’s education sector pertaining to implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) like, irregular payment to teachers appointed under the Centre’s flagship programme, uneven distribution of textbooks, headquarter-centric officers, etc, RTI activist Payi Gyadi has written to the Secretary, Department of Elementary Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, GOI pleading him to enquire into the  matters and initiate necessary action at the earliest possible for the teachers serving the State and for the growth of quality education.

Seeking to draw the Centre’s attention towards the ‘pitiable’ condition of the SSA teachers, the RTI activist claimed that salary is never paid to these employees by the State Govt on time despite sanctioning of central share due to which growth of elementary education in various corners of the State is affected.

There are more than 7000 teachers working under SSA in the state. However, the situation of these teachers is very miserable and their future career seems quite gloomy, he pointed.

He further claimed that due to deepening corruption, quality of education is deteriorating. Often, politicians in the state influence the recruitment process merely for their vote banks. Many appointments are made just for the sake of ‘vote for job’ instead of quality teaching through recruitment based on merit. Even transfer-posting are being done politically; affecting the teaching-learning process.

Apart from alleging that there are huge manipulations in Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme implementation and irregularity in school uniforms distribution, Gyadi claimed that concerned officers at headquarters never visit and understand the ground reality. They just stay at office and busy in falsifying the process at paper only.

“Such and many other types of corruption happening in the state are serious threats to future generation….Please verify the details and enquire into the same. Action should be initiated at earliest for the teachers serving the state and for the growth of quality education,” he pleaded.
