State Police urged to strengthen intelligence gathering

ROING, Jan 6: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Saturday called for strengthening the ‘intelligence branch’ of the State Police Force. Further calling for proper coordination and cooperation between the administration and police, he said that the State Govt is always there to support and look into the needs of the police personnel and encouraged them to perform their duty with utmost sincerity and dedication.

The Dy Chief Minister, while interacting with the police personnel and CRPF jawans at the premises of VKV, Roing, lauded the district police headed by SP Sanjay Kumar Sain for maintenance of peace and order in the district. He also praised them for showing their valor in arresting hardcore underground cadres from Kalapani area of Dambuk last year, besides capturing extortionists, arms robbers, and detecting explosives and for timely action in tackling other sensitive cases.

Mein also praised them for the measures taken in community policing, for conducting outreach and awareness programme for various social evils like drugs addiction. He also acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of Assam Rifles and other paramilitary forces since NEFA days for the security and safety of the people of this border State.

He also exhorted the students to devote their time in study and make themselves a good and responsible citizen of the country.

Earlier, SP Sanjay Kumar Sain highlighting the achievements and activities of the District Police told that with the opening of Bhupen Hazarika Bridge, there is tremendous increase of visitors in the district. He informed that the manpower in Shantipur check gate has been strengthened and CCTV cameras installed at the check gate to check illegal entry of men and materials.

Chief Engineer (Highway) Toli Basar and ADC (Roing) Cheshta Yadav were also present at the meeting.
