Cops trained on social defence

ITANAGAR, Jan 7: Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) in collaboration with National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), New Delhi conducted a three-day State level training programme on social defence for the middle level APP functionaries at PTC, Banderdewa from January 4 to 6.

In all, 40 police personnel from various districts of Arunachal Pradesh participated in the course. The training module covered various social issues related to women, children, elderly persons, drug abuse, juvenile delinquency etc.

IGP Nabin Payeng attending the programme as chief guest elaborated several issues regarding social defence to trainees, and various social problems prevalent in the society pertaining to women, children and rising drug abuses in the state. He also exhorted that it is us who have to build the society and everyone should contribute in making this society crime-free.

Earlier, speaking at the inaugural session, PTC Principal Surendra Choudhary briefed regarding the importance of social issues and its redressal. The trainees also visited Oju Mission at Naharlagun, where they were briefed on various social welfare activities being undertaken by the NGO including women and child helpline.

The resource persons were drawn from the High Court, District Legal Services Authority, Rajiv Gandhi University and Women & Child Development Department and also from Narcotics Control Bureau, Guwahati. Dy SP (Training), PTC, Dusu Kaling and Gyari Tai and other faculty members were also present on the occasion.
