Effort underway on wildlife protection in Changlang sub-division

CHANGLANG, Jan 10: Tangsa and Tutsa People’s Organisation (TTPO) of Changlang has voluntarily come forward with a noble cause of wildlife protection in Changlang sub-division by creating awareness among the general masses and stopping hunting of wildlife in the area, according to an official release.

TTPO general secretary Phosam Zongsam, in his address, informed that imposing ban on hunting in Changlang sub-division was one of the issues taken up by the organization, and sought cooperation from Department of Environment & Forests and general administration in making their endeavour a success.

Maihu Mamai, TTPO publicity secretary, in an appeal letter to the Dept of Environment &Forest, requested for cooperation, support, guidance and enforcement of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 to curb hunting in the area.  Constant patrolling by Forest officials, checking sale of wild meat in the market and prompt action against the persons involved as per the appropriate law and awareness generation at the grassroots levels were few of the suggestions, made by the organization.

DFO Changlang P Tangha emphasized on generating intensive awareness among the villagers on Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. He appreciated the steps taken by TTPO and assured all possible support from the department’s end.

All executive members as well as other members of the organization attended the inaugural programme of the awareness campaign, as part of which hoardings with messages of ‘no hunting of wildlife’ were installed in many strategic points.
