Ednl tour for Arunachalee children to Kolkata & Gaya flagged in at Likabali

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The Indian Army-conducted educational tour for children of Arunachal Pradesh to Kolkata and Gaya from 29th Dec, 2017 to 11th Jan, 2018 was flagged in by Maj Gen Bhaskar Kalita, GOC, Spearhead Division at Likabali today.

The educational tour, organized by Spearhead Division for the children of Tuting and nearby villages of Upper Siang district, was flagged off from Sigar on 29th Dec last.

The GOC interacted with the children who had numerous stories of their joyful experiences to share. It was the first occasion for many children to travel outside the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

In all 25 children including boys & girls along with two teachers participated in the tour. A six days tour to Kolkata – ‘The City of Joy’ entailed a customized and guided tour to some of the interesting places of the city including Victoria Memorial, Eden Gardens, Birla Planetarium, Science City, Race Course, Fort William and many more.

In addition, the children also got an opportunity to visit a contemporary shopping mall and witnessed a movie in a multiplex theatre. Thereafter, they were taken on a two days tour to Gaya – ‘The City of Enlightenment’, which included visits to the Officers Training Academy and Monastery at Bodh Gaya.

It was a memorable experience for the children and will encourage them to venture more to different parts of the country. The Indian Army due to its access to the remote border areas of the country has been a forerunner in organizing such events to unify the population of these far-flung areas into national mainstream.
