PASIGHAT, Jan 30: In yet another effort to crush the alleged illegal drug peddling in the region, Pasighat police with the help of Women Against Social Evils (WASE) arrested a drug peddler from Mirsam village on Monday evening.

Informing about the arrest of drug peddler and recoveries from him, WASE general secretary Joya Tasung Moyong said that they have been following this youth namely one Tobom Regon of Mirsam village from last one month. “Finally, we could catch him red handed while dealing with the drugs and seized three packets of brown sugar in transparent plastic, four numbers of small packets of brown sugar in paper and eight rolls of Ganja (marijuana) weighing 5.8 grams and 39.3 grams respectively,”, added Joya.

She raised concern over selling of drugs in and around educational institutions and appealed the authorities concerned to sensitize those in the surroundings of schools and colleges as many students are reportedly getting prey to this menace.

A case in this regard has been registered against the youth vide Pasighat PS case no 15/18 U/S 20(A)/2(B) of NDPS Act.

Earlier, WASE had submitted detailed reports to SP and DC Pasighat including DIGP Central Range, Pasighat urging formulation of strategies followed by concerted action to curb the menace.

As per WASE sources, the supplies are coming in from Assam, especially Leku-Jelum areas and those inter-state drug peddlers equally needed to be sensitized while taking the help of Assam Police.
