Climate change – a major challenge: CS

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: State Chief Secretary Satya Gopal said climate change was a major challenge that the world faced and a united effort was required to meet it.

He was speaking at a one-day orientation workshop on climate change adaptation in Arunachal Pradesh for officers and HoDs here today.

“We have to adopt long term programme for protection of environment and forest,” he said adding it would mitigate damage due to climate change.

He also called for creating awareness on the subject.

Advisor and Head (SPLICE) Division Climate Change Programme, DST, GoI, Dr Akhilesh Gupta in his address assured all support for training, capacity-building  of officers so that all are fully aware about the need for conservation and protection of environment and the eco-system.

Principal Secretary (Environment & Forests) and PCCF Omkar Singh, Additional PCCF (Env & CC) A K Shukla, IHCAP Team leader Dr Mustafa Ali Khan, ICIMOD Policy Advisor Dr S Satpaty, Deputy Director (Environment & Climate Change) and Nodal Officer on Climate Change Cell D Dohu Robin also addressed the inaugural session.
