Golden Jubilee Yazali Nyokum: Traditional games & sports events being held in villages

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: The ongoing traditional games & sports competition organized as a part of Golden Jubilee Yazali Nyokum Yullo celebration in villages of Yazali sub-division on Thursday reached Kebi village.

The competition, which began at Potin village on January 28, is taking place in all the villages of Yazali sub-division involving people from all walks of life to make them part of the celebration of 50th year of Nyokum Yullo.

While chairing the event at Kebi village, Nyokum Yullo Festival Committee chairman Toko Jyoti requested everyone irrespective of whatever religion they follow to participate in the Nyokum celebration at Yazali.

He also emphasized on preservation of age-old art, tradition and culture of Nyishi community, saying through Nyokum celebration one can demonstrate what the Nyishi are.

He himself being a Christian further said that Nyokum should not be discriminated on the basis of religion as its celebration is not just of human being but for all the living beings.

Meanwhile, various traditional games and sports events were organized simultaneously at Pitapool and Billo villages today.

Along with the festival committee, a team Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) under PHE Dept, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh is also moving from village to village for spreading awareness on State’s open defecation free (ODF) status.

The villagers are being imparted the knowledge of clean toilets, cleanliness and other aspects. The dissemination of information in collaboration with Nyokum is first of its kind in the state and is gaining attention from the villagers, youths and Panchayats.

The Chief Engineer PHED along with his team of consultants gave rigorous awareness on the Swachhata protocol which was formulated for the denizens in order to sustain and maintain the true spirit of ODF.

The Nyokum committee is organizing Clean Khel Panyor river drive in collaboration with the Swachh Bharat Mission, PHED, GoAP on Feb 10 next.
