Arunachal in Int’l Kolkata Book Fair

KOLKATA, Feb 5: Arunachal Pradesh has been illuminating in the 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair 2018 with its thematic presentation of the exhibition stall in the ‘Priya Ranjan Das Munsi Hall’ here.

The theme of this year’s interior decoration is “Economic activities of the people of Arunachal Pradesh” – reflecting the cultural heritage of the ethnic communities of the state. It focused on different modes of agriculture, adoption of horticulture products, painting and weaving as economic pursuits of the people.

Sahitya Akademi awardee Y D Thongchi has inaugurated the exhibition stall on Feb 3 and released four titles of research publications. The four titles are: Economic Pursuits among the tribes of AP edited by Batem Pertin, R N Koley and Dr Radhe Yampi; Folktales of AP edited by Batem Pertin, R N Koley & S Chanda; Understanding Arunachal Pradesh by R N Koley; and Udit Surjer Deshe (Bengali) by R N Koley & S Chanda.

In his address, Thongchi lauded the yeoman’s service rendered by Research Department to focus Arunachal Pradesh in proper perspectives through publications as permanent source of documentation. He added publication of Bengali book will be valuable addition for understanding Arunachal Pradesh.

DRC (Kolkata) S Nath also expressed that the Bengali book Udit Surjer Deshe by Koley will be conducive for highlighting tourism potential of Arunachal Pradesh in the years to come.

Writer & news editor of ‘Aaz Kal’, Arup Basu said it is a privilege for the people of Bengal to know about Arunachal Pradesh authentically.

The book ‘Udit Surjer Desh’ written by Koley and published by Govt of AP is stated to be the highest sold book in the 42nd Kolkata Book Fair as informed by Gyati Tany, a local.
