Aalo drug rehabilitation centre made functional

Aalo, Feb 8: The rehabilitation centre for drug addicts located at Lower Hiker Gumin, Aalo has been made functional on Feb 7 after years of struggle and efforts put in by Mothers’ Vision, an NGO backed by few well-wishers.

Attending the inaugural ceremony of its functioning, West Siang Deputy Commissioner Swetika Sachan lauded the effort of the NGO and said that we cannot remain indifferent to growing vices of drug addiction as it has adverse impact for development of a conducive society to live in. Whatever little amount has been pumped in from district administration for the centre was an encouragement to societal effort put in by Mothers’ Vision, she said and exhorted all women activists to keep up their good works.

Mothers’ Vision chairperson Jumde Yomgam Gamlin said that the NGO made a humble beginning to create awareness on cleanliness and drug abuse in sectors/colonies of the town and added, the need for a rehabilitation centre arouse to give proper education and treatment to many drug addicts in the district.

In his keynote address, Canady Bagra, counselor of the rehabilitation centre dwelt at length on addiction, treatment, withdrawal, recovery and remedies. He said it is encouraging that all addicts for long years who have recovered are manning the centre.

Former minister Doi Ado and DMO Dr Nyage Geyi while attending the function also lauded the noble initiative by the Mothers’ Vision and assured all possible cooperation and assistance from their side. Representatives from APWWS, Galo Ane and other women’s organizations also attended the function. (DIPRO)
