Lekang Mandal BJP joins Cong en-masse

ITANAGAR, Feb 11: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Itanagar on Feb 15, the ruling party today suffered a major jolt apparently with the office bearers of BJP’s Lekang assembly constituency in Namsai district merged en-bloc with the Congress party at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan here in presence of APCC president Takam Sanjoy.

Lekang is the home constituency of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.

A release from APCC said that registering their strong opposition against the BJP, particularly Lekang MLA cum Dy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, the BJP Mandal Committee leaders including energetic youth leader Anirudha Deori univocally said that they had joined the BJP with high expectation with its leaders’ numerous promises, including Rs 15 lakh to be deposited in each account but unanimously decided to rejoin the Congress after realising that they were taken for a ride.

Pointing out that their villages were threatened by annual flood fury of ferocious Noa-Dihing river but neither their leader has visited when they were in peril nor found any tangible solution during his last 28-year rule except false promises, they claimed.

The APCC president terming their return to Congress party fold as ‘home coming,’ said that the oldest party of India credited with achieving freedom from British Raj is deep rooted in grassroots level. Thus, ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’, the efforts of PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah would remain a dream.

Pointing out that BJP has never won an election in Arunachal Pradesh, a safe Congress fort, Sanjoy said that the present BJP Govt was formed by importing Congress MLAs that amounted to ‘murder of democracy’, which has been justified by the court ruling.
