132kV Ziro-Dapo transmission line damaged due to heavy cyclonic storm

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: The 132 kV Ziro-Daporijo transmission line has suffered major damages on March 6 last due to a heavy cyclonic storm, resulting into power outage in parts of the State starting from Lower Subansiri to Anjaw district, according to a release from the State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) & Transmission Division-II here today.

Damages caused to tower numbers 55, 56 & 57 are located around 17 Km from Ziro. Damage to tower No. 56 was severe which shall require total replacement of tower arm and tower parts.

The release said, teams from the Department of Power along with necessary available resources were immediately pressed into service for rectification and restoration works. The teams from Ziro and Daporijo arrived on the same evening and commenced works immediately braving extremely tough terrain and inclement weather.

In spite of the limitations, the damaged line was successfully restored on a temporary basis using available resources on March 8 considering the necessity and urgency of the matter in view of the ongoing CBSE examinations.

For permanent restoration, necessary processes of design and procurement of proper and specified spares of faulty/damaged components have already been initiated. The line will be restored to its normal state once the spares arrive at site, the release added.
