Maintenance of Itanagar-Sangdupota road: Govt questioned on justification in releasing “meagre” amount

ITANAGAR, Mar 12: The All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) has condemned the state govt for expecting from the PWD, Doimukh Division to construct a first class all-weather road by releasing “merely” Rs 12 crore for repairing cum re-carpeting of Itanagar-Jote-Poma-Sangdupota road (24 Km) without keeping the drainage provision by deducting it (released amount) from the “actual” amount of Rs 16 crore, according to a press note from APPDSU.

With the advent of rainy season the undergoing snail’s pace with low quality of maintenance work executed and lack of drainage provision, the said road will not last even for few months, alleged the Union.

Stating that the GoAP has not sanctioned any fund for the construction of new culverts and bridges for the said road project, APPDSU felt that the establishment of many educational institutes and public projects in the area which are under construction the flow of heavy vehicles has increased and are damaging the existing deplorable roads and at the same time, affecting the old culverts and bridges which are on the verge of collapse.

Further, the Union has questioned the state govt on its justification as to how from Rs 12 crore sanctioned to the PWD, Doimukh Division the department will construct and make maintenance of the 24-Km road by not sanctioning fund for the construction of drainage, new culverts and bridges?
