6 drug peddlers arrested

ITANAGAR, Apr 1: Altogether, six persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in peddling of drugs as well as consuming drugs during a major a crackdown launched against the illicit trade by a joint team of police and excise official with support from student and women activists.

The drive against the drug menace was carried out at six houses of Jenglai village under Piyong circle of Namsai district on March 30 during which banned drugs along with cash and other articles were seized from two houses, informed the State Nodal Officer, Narcotics Cell, Olik Koyu, who led the team during the search.

The recoveries included three plastic pouches containing pink coloured powdery substance suspected to be contraband drugs weighing 30.97 grams, 26.60 grams opium smeared in cloths, weighing machine, silver foil – one roll, Rs 7230, plastic pipe – two numbers, small knife-two nos and lighter-two nos.

The accused have been identified as Chau Pintika Khen, Chow Witho Manpang, Chow Mantana Namchoom, Chow Chandan Khen, Nang Rina Khen and Chow Tithina Mannoi, the officer said, adding that all the accused persons were brought to the Namsai police station for further legal action.

Two separate cases were registered at Namsai PS against the accused persons under various sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and further investigation is on.

Besides the police and IRBn personnel, members of Arunachal Students Federation, Namsai District Students’ Union and Women’s Welfare Society, Namsai assisted the team in conducting the raid.
