CNSS holds first national seminar

ITANAGAR, Apr 6: The Centre for National Security Studies (CNSS), Rajiv Gandhi University, organized its first national seminar on “Issues and Challenges of National Security in North-East India” today.

The seminar was graced by Air Marshal (Retd) Pranab Kumar Barbora, Chancellor RGU as chief guest, while eminent Prof Tridib Chakraborti, retired Professor Department of International Relations, Jadavpur University, Kolkata delivered the keynote address.

In his inaugural speech, Prof Tomo Riba, Registrar in-charge RGU, who highlighted the background and importance of setting up the Centre of National Security Studies in the university.

Prof P K Panigrahi, vice chancellor in-charge spoke on various concerns of the nation in general and Northeastern region in particular.

Barbora shared his experiences candidly and brought up several issues and challenges before the august gathering.

Prof Chakraborti elaborated on various security challenges of the country with much impetus on the Northeastern region. He emphasized on the development of the region as the first priority and also stressed on overcoming the connectivity bottlenecks.

He also pointed out that any developmental policy has to be people-centric and the CNSS, RGU has to play a vibrant centre to locate the issues in the right earnest.

Dr Sunil Nandi and Gomar Basar were the coordinators of the seminar. Around a dozen of research papers were presented in the seminar.
