Police arrests 5 ATM custodians, recovers Rs 13 lakh

Itanagar, Apr 6: The city police has arrested five persons – all custodians of SBI’s ATMs in the township area who were responsible for loading cash in the ATMs – for allegedly misappropriating a whopping amount of Rs 50 lakh, according to SP (Capital) Sagar Singh Kalsi here.

On receipt of a written FIR from one Nazirul Islam, Risk Manager for Radiant Cash Management Services Pvt Ltd, for misappropriation of cash to the tune of Rs 50 lakh from different SBI ATMs in Naharlagun area, the SP said, a case vide Naharlagun PS FIR No. 48/18 u/s 381/408/420/120(B) IPC dated 24/03/2018 was registered and investigation taken up.

During investigation, the police team led by SI K Dev under the supervision of officer-in-charge of PS Naharlagun Insp N Riba, SDPO Naharlagun M Bui and the SP analyzed the documents pertaining to the crime. Finally, it was discovered that it is the cash management party that has committed the offence and subsequently, the team arrested accused namely, Bultan Boruah, Nabakrishna Gogoi and Indrajit Barhoi from Assam.

SI K Dev, I/O of the case has further arrested accused Sultan-Al-Mahmud and Porakmoni Das, AGM and Assistant Manager of Radiant Cash Management Services Pvt Ltd respectively, from Guwahati, who were also involved in the misappropriation.

A sum of Rs 13 lakh which was kept in the safe hands of the accused in Assam has also been recovered by the police. Further investigation is on to recover more amount as well as to nab any other involved persons, the SP informed.
