SAI official assures to ‘up’ Arunachal

NEW DELHI, Apr 6: Sports Authority of Arunachal Chairman Bamang Tago called on DDG, SAI Sandeep Pradhan at his official chamber at Nehru Stadium here today and apprised him of the need for consideration of schemes submitted by state govt for development of various sports infrastructures.

Tago pointed out that it is overdue for the frontier state to avail fund for construction of national standard infrastructure of any discipline from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports even after 56 years since the Chinese aggression of 1962 and almost 71 years of India’s independence in spite of youth of the state having proved their talents, bringing many laurels for the country and state in the past in absence of infrastructures.

Even many National Sports Federations have refused to allocate on hosting their national events in Aruanchal due to non-availability of infrastructures, Tago disclosed adding unlike other parts of state and UTs in India,  Arunachal has been facing many challenges and sports is one of the best way to channelize the youth energy towards the national mainstream.

Giving a patient hearing, the SAI official while appreciating the GoAP for proposing a number of projects under Khelo India but expressed unavailability to consider all these schemes and suggested to prioritize a project called ‘District level Sports School’, a newly designed project under Khelo India for all disciplines in one place in and around the state Capital to cater to and harness the budding youth paving them to compete in the national and international levels in years to come.

SAI also ‘assured’ to adopt Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu till the scheme ‘District level Sports School’ comes up.

The meeting was also attended by Dr V K Sharma, Asstt Director (Operation) and Prashant Kumar, Asstt Director, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports respectively.
