Dibrugarh-Silchar express train launched

GUWAHATI, Apr 8: Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam along with Rajen Gohain, Minister of State of Railways and other dignitaries today jointly flagged off a new express train service between Dibrugarh and Silchar heralding a new era of overnight communication between the two biggest cities of Upper Assam and Barak Valley respectively.

With the introduction of this new service, a long standing demand of people from both the areas stands fulfilled. This train will go a long way in strengthening the bond between people of Barak and Brahmaputra valleys apart from improving rail connectivity. It’s like dream coming true for a huge section of population who are used to commute between Upper Assam and South Assam districts. They will now be able to undertake their journey without making any interchange mid-way.

In his speech, Chief Minister of Assam expressed his happiness over introduction of this new service. He thanked Prime Minister for taking special interest in development of NE Region by allocating more than Rs 90,000 crore. He hoped that more such services will be introduced in near future to fulfill the wish of the common people of the region.

Gohain, in his speech, hoped that the new train will be very helpful for students studying in universities, medical colleges and engineering colleges apart from businessmen etc. It will also be helpful for people of Mizoram, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

In today’s function held at Dibrugarh station, Terash Gowalla, MLA Duliajan, Binod Hazarika, MLA Chabua, Rituparna Baruah, MLA Lahowal, Rameswar Teli, MP Dibrugarh, Kamakhya Prasad Tasha, MP Jorhat, Sanjive Roy, General Manager, N F Railway and Prashant Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager-Tinsukia/NFR were present.

The entire function was telecast live for the people at Silchar station from Dibrugarh. At Silchar Kabindra Purkayastha, former Union Minister, Amar Chand Jain, MLA Katigora, Mihir Kanti Shome, MLA Udarbandh and Rajdeep Goala, MLA Lakhipur and other distinguished people were present to witness this historic occasion.

The regular service of the train will start from 16.04.2018 from Dibrugarh and from Silchar on 17.04.2018. Train number 15944 Dibrugarh – Silchar Express will leave Dibrugarh every Monday at 19-00 hrs to arrive at Silchar at 08-40 hrs on Tuesday. During return journey the 15943 Silchar – Dibrugarh Express will leave from Silchar every Tuesday at 22-15 hrs to arrive Dibrugarh at 11-20 hrs next day. The train will have AC 2 tier, AC 3 tier, Sleeper class and General Second class accommodation available.

The train will have stoppages at Sibsagar town, Simaluguri Jn, Mariani Jn, Furkating Jn, Dimapur, Lumding, New Haflong and Badarpur Jn during its journey both ways.
