Program for PwDs

ROING, Apr 9: Kera AA Society, Lower Dibang Valley district is organizing a series of programmes for the persons with disabilities (PwDs) under the aegis of National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disability (NIEPMD), Chennai, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt of India.

The programme commenced on Monday with training for parents and guardians having specially abled children (PwDs) which was followed by a programme for PwDs.

Both the programmes were participated by more than 200 persons with different types of disabilities including their parents and guardians. Present among others were concerned Govt officers, PRI members, resource persons including physiotherapists who besides training the PwDs and their parents had also demonstrated how to manage problems in day-to-day lives of PwDs.

The programme also highlighted the rights and privileges and various welfare schemes of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for the PwDs.

It may be noted that NIEPMD is a premier organisation which has been implementing such programmes with support from NGOs which are working in the field of social defence.

Preceding this programme, an ICDS workers meet was organised in the premises of Arunachal Pali Vidyapith Society, Chongkham under the aegis of NIEPMD by TWS Society where more than 150 persons participated. The main focus of the programme was ‘Revised Persons with Disabilities Act-2016’ which was preceded by identification of 14 mentally challenged children which had been duly certified by concerned authorities in National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), Secundarabad.
