3rd Northeast Fiesta enthralls Punjab audience

ITANAGAR, Apr 10: With the aim of celebrating culture, connecting people and transforming life, the 3rd edition of Northeast Fiesta, the biggest carnival of Northeast India in Punjab, was organized on April 7-8 last by Northeast Students’ Organization, Jalandhar in association with Viva Collage Mall Jalandhar to showcase the cultural diversity of all the NE states to the people of Punjab with a cultural exchange program to foster integrity, prosperity and excellence.

During the carnival, handicraft, handloom, art, traditional sport, photography and tourism exhibition were presented from all the eight states. All the 8 states presented their traditional folk music and dance mesmerizing the guests and local visitors. A few Northeast based music bands and Jalandhar also participated in it.

Not only that, there was a discussion session on relevant topics of Northeast and the eminent speaker for the session was Arvind Mishra, a Guinness world record holder and also a Tedx speaker. Start up entrepreneurs from Northeast region named TOTELL, Assam Arunachal Resort Harmutty, Deal Expertz, Maatrima also participated in the discussion session to boost various business opportunities and promotion of tourism and industrial sector.

Earlier, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla, also a MP from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, congratulated the students for bringing the cultural diversity in Punjab and wished for success of the festival.

DJ Prinal, an eminent EDM artist of VH1 enthralled the audience during the last day of the event.

This year, a very talented daughter of Sikkim, Kritika Sharma, an FBB Campus Princess Winner 2018 of Miss India organization was the showstopper for talented designers Linthoi and Nandini and not only that she mesmerized everyone with her Bollywood songs and also presented a Sikkimese folk dance.

People of Punjab witnessed fashion show by promising designers from Northeast with Rikyir Romin from Arunachal Pradesh showcasing her brand ABO Tani, and KIRAN and LINAN by Linthoi and Nandini from Manipur and Assam respectively.

As the concept of this festival was a cultural exchange, folk songs and dances were performed by the local artists of Punjab. Parika Tattar, a young fashion designer from Jalandhar also showcased her fashion collection.

“We the Northeast students studying here in Punjab eagerly wait for this annual cultural festival as this event brings all Northeasterners studying in Punjab together and creates a mini Northeast for two days, and learn the importance of unity in diversity through cultural exchanges with the host city Jalandhar”, said Tenong Takuk, president of Northeast Students Organization Jalandhar.

Singing talents from Northeast such as Salchame Sangam and Ophilia Kharluki from Meghalaya and Fable from Nagaland enthralled the audience.

This year, Northeast Fiesta also saw an international twist as Niharika Gyawali from Nepal mesmerized Punjab with her voice, professional models from Afghanistan, Bhutan, and few from African countries participated in the designer showcase.

Renowned footballers from the Manipur, Jeakson Singh Thounaojam, the first goal scorer for India in any FIFA tournament and Nongdamba Naorem, both from India’s Under-17 Football World Cup 2017 squad, graced the event as guests of honour. The local visitors enjoyed and also complimented the ethnic cuisines presented by the students from Northeastern states.
