Effort afoot to speed up NEIFM activities

PASIGHAT, Apr 13: A meeting of 4th Standing Finance Committee of North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM), Pasighat under Ministry of AYUSH was held at the conference hall of the institute here today, in an effort to accelerate various activities to be undertaken to serve the very purpose of setting up of this institute.

The meeting was chaired by Jt Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, P N Ranjit Kumar and attended by Member Secretary, Director NEIFM, Pasighat, P Ringu, DMO Pasighat Dr M Perme representing Commissioner Health, representative of financial adviser, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GoI, Rajpal Bhatia and others.

The committee resolved to recommend the Ministry of AYUSH for timely recruitment of doctors and scientists for scientific validation of folk medicine, expansion of other activities like cultivation/growing of herbal garden and construction of transit accommodation etc.

Asked as to why the NEIFM Pasighat hasn’t taken up any cognizable activity so far despite its establishment few years back, the Union Joint Secy said that usually it takes a bit of time to pick momentum as the file processing also takes time. However, he conceded that some delay in action from Ministry level was there also but it largely depended upon the non action of an official here. But, Kumar said that activities are now gearing up and the recruitment for doctors and scientists will also be completed by 2-3 months.

The present Director is making all-out effort and the institute is likely to serve the people of the region with full commitment once basic infrastructures and others are completed, added Kumar.

Director NEIFM said that effort is being made from his side to accelerate the activities of the institute to realize the very purpose of establishing this national institute.
