Workshop on ‘Conservation Tourism’ concludes

ZEMITHANG, Apr 13: A three days workshop on ‘Conservation Tourism and Homestay Hospitality’ ended here yesterday.

The workshop, organized by the Department of Tourism, GoAP in collaboration with World Pheasant Society of India (WPSI), Association for Conservation & Tourism (ACT) and Arunachal Pradesh Society for Education & Development (APSED), was attended by 35 trainees from six villages of Kharman, Muchut, Zemithang, Kalengten, Taktsang and Shoktsen.

The programme was inaugurated in presence of the PRI’s, Assistant Director of Tourism, Bengia Manna Sonam and Circle Officer on 10th April last at the PWD Inspection Bungalow Hall.

The entire course covered motivating on Rural Tourism related to Conservation, developing communication capacities of the trainees, understanding tourists, Homestay management, Housekeeping, Cleaning, Food Production, Menu Planning, Hygiene, Food Safety and Habitat Conservation.

The second day training started with a motivating speech by District Tourism Officer of Tawang, Tsering Dicki.

Resource person on Habitat, Dr Anwaruddin Chowdhury explained the trainees about the unique Red Panda and Pheasant habitat with which they share their home.

Practical training on bed making, cleaning, toilet cleaning and table layout was taught to the trainees. On the 12th morning, the team of experts along with a few trainees led by WPSI Arunachal Pradesh coordinator Heerak Nandi went on an outdoor survey of the Habitat.

The Assistant Director, DTO and TIO made a survey of the home stays and the Tourist Lodge.

The department of Tourism covered the training programme themed ‘Tawang-Kameng landscape reaching the unreached’. The continuous effort of the department for motivation of more home stays have resulted in operation of as many as 20 home stays in Tawang district, 26 in West Kameng and three in East Kameng registered under the department of Tourism.
