Workshop on National Pension System held

ITANAGAR, Apr 16: A workshop cum training on National Pension System (NPS) was organized by the Directorate of Accounts & Treasuries, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre here today.

Speaking on the occasion, in-charge Chief Secretary Kaling Tayeng explained in detail the benefits of NPS over GPF, General Provident Fund, which was the pension system adopted by Govt before NPS. He said that NPS, in which the Govt makes an equal contribution, is beneficial to both the employees as well as the Govt. He urged the officers to attend the entire workshop to learn the nuances of this pension system so as to effectively implement it in their respective districts.

In 2007, the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh had introduced NPS for all its regular employees who were appointed on or after 1st January 2008. Here, a Govt servant has to contribute 10% of his basic pay, dearness pay and dearness allowance while the Govt too makes an equal matching contribution.

The training was attended by the all the Finance and Accounts Officers, Treasury Officers and Sub Treasury Officers. Amongst others Secretary Finance Y W Ringu and Director, Accounts & Treasuries Techi Tedi were also present in the session. (DIPR)
