Bid to connect Bomdilla-Tawang tourism circuit from Itanagar through Papu Valley

LUMDUNG, Apr 17: A two days workshop to establish the first CBT (Community Based Tourism) destination to be initiated by the Department of Tourism, GoAP in collaboration with Association for Conservation & Tourism (ACT) and Arunachal Pradesh Society for Educational Development (APSED) commenced at Lumdung in East Kameng district, about 25 Km away from the district headquarters Seppa on 15th April last. The workshop was coordinated by District Tourism Officer Taluk Sonam and attended by 108 villagers from the area of Papu Valley.

The initiative to develop this area into a new tourism destination is mainly to connect the popular Bomdilla-Tawang tourism circuit from Itanagar through Papu Valley. The trainees were sensitized on tourism and the skills for communication were introduced.

It was found that Papu, Patta and Pakui are the core of this region, where Papu Valley is popular as the ‘rice bowl’ of East Kameng. A bat cave can be made into a popular attraction along with the activities of rafting, para-gliding, trekking and camping. The initiative has been undertaken by the office of the Assistant Director, Bengia Manna Sonam, who was present during the inauguration, along with the senior most GB, CO and Panchayat members.

The training was coordinated by a team comprising of S S Kar, Seema Kop and HQ TIO Mamung Danyi. The trainees had to undergo an academic and practical orientation on home stay operation, housekeeping, food production, cleanliness, food safety and handling of guests.
