DIPROs conference: Stress on using social media to reach out to masses

ITANAGAR, May 15: Minister for Information & Public Relations and PHE & Water Supply Bamang Felix, while underlining the role of the District Information and Public Relations Officers (DIPROs), exhorted them to explore all potentials in them and rise themselves to the highest possible level in passing the messages of the Govt to the people of the State so that the State truly raise to the desired level of development.

The Minister was speaking at the DIPROs review cum coordination meeting held at the conference hall of Finance department at Civil Secretariat here today.

Asserting that the onus of disseminating the information regarding Govt programmes and policies to over 14 lakh population of Arunachal rests with the DIPROs and PROs of the State, he said the faith of Govt and people on the officers of IPR department as most efficient medium of communication in passing the programmes and policies of the Govt to the people should be well reciprocated with team spirit and in missionary zeal.

He further said, the role of the IPR officers should not only be to communicate and disseminate information to the people but should be a continuous process and a medium to change the thought process of the people.

Informing that crores of money is laying unspent in the State at various levels only due to lack of awareness among the people on how to avail the benefits of Govt’s flagship schemes, he told the officers to be more proactive and involve themselves in the IEC campaign of various executing agencies.

On shortage of infrastructure facility for DIPROs, the Minister said, the Govt is contemplating to equip all the officers not only with the infrastructures but wisdoms through trainings at institutes of national and international repute. The Govt is working on a strategy to strengthen the department and its working system, he added.

The Minister while assuring to look into the grievances of the officers asked the Director of IPR Dept to expedite the process of framing of recruitment rules of the officers and creation of posts and projection units wherever required and infrastructural needs like office and residential buildings, vehicle, PA system, etc.

Parliamentary Secretary for IPR Mama Natung, in his address, said Information and Public Relations Dept being the mouthpiece of the Govt is one of the most important departments and asked the officers to truly involve in the IEC campaigns so that the rural populace is made aware of the various flagship schemes. He profusely thanked the State Govt for earmarking Rs 4 crore for completion of Soochna Bhawan. He expressed hope that the building will be completed with that amount this year.

IPR Secretary Sonam Chombay, while taking part in the discussion, informed that the Govt is well aware of the important roles being played by DIPROs in dissemination of the policies and programmes of the Govt and added that fund will not be a constraint for the officers. He further assured to provide smart phones and other equipments to all the officers for smooth dissemination of information.

He advised the officers not to be stereotyped in their working style but to be more proactive and explore every possible medium including the social media for dissemination of information. He instructed the officers to be very active in social media and to open Facebook account and Twitter handle of their respective districts so that information reaches to the targeted people.

Special Secretary (IPR) Himangsu Gupta, while presenting a concept paper ‘Arunachal Raising Campaign’, asked the officers to reach out to the people in a holistic manner through various medium of social media. Earlier, the DIPROs of various districts shared their achievements and constraints through PPT presentation.
