Tadar Anang to attend 3rd BRICS Young Scientist Conclave at Durban

NAHARLAGUN, Jun 6: Tadar Anang of Arunachal Pradesh has been selected to attend the 3rd BRICS Young Scientist Conclave, to be held at Durban in South Africa from June 25 to 29 next.

Anang is one among 24 out of 350 odd applicants from the country shortlisted for the event. He was recommended to regional level by the department of Science & Technology, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh and nominated by National Innovation Foundation (NIF).

The BRICS Young Scientist Conclave is a flagship event of BRICS Young Scientist Forum under over-all framework of BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Cooperation Program. India is the lead coordinator for BRICS YS Forum and its Secretariat is housed in India at National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru.

The 3rd BRICS Young Scientist Forum under the theme “Building BRICS Youth Leadership through Science, Technology and Innovation” will highlight the strategic importance of science, technology and innovation as key drivers of youth entrepreneurship and leadership. The thematic discussions will focus on energy, water and social science.

The 1st edition of BRICS YS Conclave was hosted in India in September 2016, the 2nd by China in Hangzhou and the 3rd is being organized in Durban, SA.

The composition of Indian team for 3rd BRICS YS Conclave shall comprise of 24 young scientists covering the three themes, two young innovators nominated by NIF and an adjudicator for young innovation competition and prize.

Their air tickets, including medical insurance, to Durban from Delhi and back shall be arranged by National Institute of Advance Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru.

Parliamentary Secretary for Science & Technology, Tapuk Taku, while congratulating Tadar Anang said that it is a pride moment for the department, state government and people of Arunachal Pradesh that our young boy representing the country is so much capable of competing with the competitors from other ‘powerful’ countries at an international forum.

Assuring logistic support from the department to the young scientist, Taku wished him for a successful journey and bright future. He also vowed that state govt will help and encourage other participants in future.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu is always ready to help and extend support for such improvement which directly reflects the name and fame of state and country, he added.

Science & Technology Chairman Bamang Mangha also extended congratulation to the young innovator and hoped that the young boy would be a flag bearer for the upcoming generation of the state in the field of science and technology and innovation.

Director, Science & Technology, C D Mungyak said that State Council for Science & Technology and Dept of Science & Technology are happy that the young innovator whom the department has adopted is going to participate in the 3rd BRICS Young Scientist Conclave, and hoped that he does well at the world forum.

Itanagar-based AP Science Centre curator Dr Vivek Kumar said that this is for the first time that a young scientist would be attending the BRICS Conclave which is a pride moment for our state and a good opportunity to our young and innovative scientist Tadar Anang.

It is to mention here that Anang is the recipient of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE Award 2017 and State Gold Medallist 2017 for his innovation G4B Goggles for Blind.

When contacted, Anang, who resides at Nirjuli, said that he is ready to go but there are lot of formalities and preparations which need to be completed for which he needs support from the department and government. He said he has to get his health check-up and prepare some technical models to compete at the world forum.

While lauding the support of all, he appealed one and all to pray for his success which would be memorable for him and people in state. He added he has miles to go and sought blessings from the elders and encouragement from the younger ones.
