Massive plantation program, clean drive conducted

PASIGHAT, Jun 9: To mark the World Environment Day and to maintain the spirit of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the All Depi and Depi-Moli Students’ Union under Ruksin sub-division organized a massive plantation and clean drive on 7th June last in association with Range Forest Office of Nari.

The event witnessed plantation of over 549 varieties of plant species like Radha Sura, Nahar, Umbrella tree, Night Queen and Gulmohor. Over 600 villagers including students, ex-PRI members, HGB, Gaon Burah and Burihs attended the programme.

On the occasion, RFO Nari Omang Moyong spoke on the importance of environment and the necessities to protect it in order to have sustainable development, while discouraging the villagers about traditional practice of “slash or burn cultivation”.

While advising the villagers to maintain hygienic environment and make proper treatment of stagnant water nearby homes she also suggested for not keeping pigs in the open, which she said causes deadly diseases. She also counseled the villagers to keep environment neat & clean.

In a separate event, Save Poba RF NGO based in Jonai, Assam organized an impressive plantation programme on World Environment Day.

Gracing the occasion, social worker cum environmentalist Jobang Modi, also chairman Arunachal Charity Home, who brought 30 special saplings of Ketir-Momir (local name but scientific name unknown) were planted at Govt Karpung Puli High School, Jonai.

He said, this plant of Ketir Momir is a shed giving tree whose fruits are loved by all types of birds.
