NFR bid to up passenger amenity

GUWAHATI, Jun 21: In what appears to be a new milestone in passenger amenity, N F Railway is going to provide lifts in many important stations across the zone.

In the first phase, as many as seven lifts would be provided, which are targeted for commissioning by September, 2018. Of these, two lifts will be provided at New Jalpaiguri, one at Katihar, one at New Coochbehar, three at Guwahati, two at Lumding and one at Tinsukia.

In the second phase, as many as 12 lifts are planned to be provided, which are targeted for commissioning by October, 2018. Of these, two lifts will be provided at Kishanganj, two at Katihar, two at New Coochbehar, three at Guwahati, two at Kamakhya, two at Lumding, one at Tinsukia and two at Dibrugarh.

Railway Board has also sanctioned another 24 lifts which are to be provided at important stations of the zone.

These lifts, which would facilitate the movement of passengers from the platform level to the Foot Over Bridge, would be very useful for aged and Divyang passengers, who find it difficult to climb the steps in order to cross over from one platform to another. The lifts having a capacity of 11 persons would be functional round the clock with uninterrupted power supply.

It is also to be mentioned that while two escalators are functional in NFR with one each at Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri, the zone is planning to provide another 18 escalators in different stations. Of these, two each would be provided at New Jalpaiguri, New Coochbehar, Rangiya, Guwahati, Katihar, New Tinsukia, Kishanganj, Lumding and Kamakhya Stations. All the escalators are targeted for commissioning by December, 2018.
