PASIGHAT, Jun 22: More than a month on, the Mebo Police is yet to make any arrest in connection with the reported burning of several huts at a community festival ground allegedly by some unknown miscreants.

The ‘shocking’ incident occurred on May 17 last at the festival ground, located between Borguli and Seram village under Mebo sub-division.

Even if an FIR was lodged at the Mebo police outpost the next day, the police still remained clueless. Terming the failure of police to nab the miscreants as ‘sheer negligence’, Mebo MLA Lombo Tayeng urged the police officials including district SP to act accordingly.

Tayeng said the huts meant for tourists and also for a weekly market after the festival got over, would have been of good help to the local womenfolk who would have earned something by selling goods in the market once it started. Such burning down of public properties is condemnable and that the miscreants should be punished as per law of the land, he added.
