Slew of events mark International Olympic Day celebration

PASIGHAT, Jun 23: East Siang District Olympic Association (ESDOA) today celebrated the International Olympic Day with a slew of events conducted at the IGJ Hr Sec School auditorium here to encourage youths on sports marking the occasion.

In his speech, Retd Group Captain and writer M Panging Pao appreciated the ESDOA for conducting the celebration in a befitting manner and also for spreading Olympic values in the district.

Stating that positive aspects of sports are numerous which are beneficial for physical skills, developing leadership and self-esteem, the chief guest informed that those who have participated at national and international levels representing the state would directly be inducted into Indian armed forces.

DSO (Sports), Nada Apa opined that East Siang has developed “true team spirit”. To find suitable sports by the parents was difficult but they should encourage them to play sports to help them feel valued.

ESDOA president Tamat Gamo informed that the IOD was initiated in 1948 to commemorate the commencement of modern Olympic Games on 23rd June, 1894 at Sorbonne in Paris.

The IOD aims to promote sports all over the world without any exception.

Hundreds of girl students from KGBV demonstrated self-defence technique and Black Belt holders Anirudh Sahani, Ashok Sahani and Asique Hussian displayed KATA and Bumkai. (DIPRO)
