Training on cultivation of mushroom

Itanagar, Jun 23: CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology (NEIST), Branch Itanagar in collaboration with Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) organised a three-day training programme on cultivation of mushroom at Doum Basti and Ganga, Itanagar from June 21 to 23. More than 50 people from Naharlagun, Karsingsa and Chimpu, Itanagar locality participated in the training programme.

Dr Budhen Ch Baruah, Sr technical officer of CSIR- NEIST highlighted the prospect of cultivation of mushroom towards self sustenance as well as societal development. The edible mushroom is a very good source of vit-D, he said and emphasized on organised cultivation not only for income generation but also to combat malnutrition.

As this season is very favourable for flushing of wild non-edible mushroom in the jungle, he advised not to pickup any wild mushroom for consumption unless it’s proper identification. He stressed on domestic cultivation of known varieties available at NEIST Branch Itanagar on simple scientific method.

A practical demonstration on preparation of mushroom bags (mushroom cropping) was also rendered during the training programme.
