It’s time to protect Mother Nature: Rebia

BANDERDEWA, Jul 4: Environment & Forests Minister Nabam Rebia opined that mother nature have given us everything on this earth and it is our responsibility to protect it or else a time will come when our survival will not be possible on this planet for want of oxygen and water.

Addressing the trainees and officials of PTC here today as part of the 69th Vana Mahotsava celebration, Rebia stressed the need of tree plantation on a ‘mission mode’.

Referring to wanton destruction of forest for settlement and urbanization, he said that around two hundred rivers and nallahs in Arunachal have dried up and if such destruction continues we may have to face drought like situation even in our state, as some of its catchment areas got dried up and the people there are getting scarcity of drinking water.

We have to protect ourselves by planting more trees and make mass awareness among out brothers/sisters and other family members about the advantage of planting trees and affect of burning of forest, killing of wild animals, and other damages to the mother nature.

Informing that our state is ranked among the top in forest cover, he said now the forest cover is also getting decreased by around 2 % which, he added is a warning for the people of the state.

Congratulating the trainees of the Police Training Centre, Rebia said, you are the future of our state and agent of security, and appealed them to educate masses about the urgent need of plantation where they live.

PTC Principal Surendra Chaudary while motivating the young trainees and locals said that plants are the real agents of life through which we get food and all our needs which needed to be taken care of.

But, we as human beings without thinking of side effects continue to destroy trees, he said and appealed all to plant more trees in schools, colleges and all other places wherever possible every year.

Banderdewa DFO Neelam Nido also appealed all to save nature through plantation programmes.
