Science awareness program organized under Project JIGYASA

Naharlagun, Jul 4: CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology (NEIST), Branch Itanagar organized as two days science awareness programme under the project JIGYASA at the Institute premises here on July 3 and 4. A total of 75 students along with their teachers from Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) No. 1, Naharlagun and KV No.2, Itanagar attended the programme.

The basic objective of the programme was to develop the scientific temper, motivation, awareness, enhancement of curiosity, sprit of research and appreciation of science among the students and empower the teachers. It may provide a platform to the students towards science and develop/conceive innovative idea; ignite the young minds for nation building.

The project “JIGYASA” would inculcate the culture of inquisitiveness on one hand and scientific temper on the other, amongst the school students and their teachers. It is expected to connect 1151 Kendriya Vidyalayas with 38 National Laboratories of CSIR targeting 100,000 students and nearly 1000 teachers annually.

Dr Jagat C Borah, Scientist in-charge, NEIST Branch Itanagar gave a brief introduction of the Institute, CSIR and opening remarks of the programme. Dr Natarajan Velmurugan delivered an exciting lecture on “Invention and Innovation and science in day to day life”. Dr Chandan Tamuly, Sr scientist briefly introduced activities of CSIR-NEIST Branch Itanagar and showed the products developed by the Institute. All the technical staff/students demonstrated different experiments and the utility and applications accordingly.
