69th Van Mahotsav observed with mass plantation at LPS Langko (Mebo) and UPS Depi

PASIGHAT, Jul 7: Going with rest of the state, the 69th Van Mahotsav was observed at Lower Primary School, Langko (Mebo) and Upper Primary School, Depi on Saturday with a massive tree plantation programme.

The plantation programme at LPS Langko was sponsored by Range Forest Officer, Mebo, Obang Tayeng. The day-long programme was attended by students, teachers, public & forest staffers wherein around 250 seedlings were planted and equal numbers of seedlings distributed.

Speaking on the occasion, RFO Tayeng highlighted the importance of Van Mahotsav celebrations in the context of today’s scenario vis-à-vis global warming & climate change.

GB Akin Ratan, head teacher Temmin Pertin, SMC chairman Tika Tayeng & others also spoke and highlighted the importance of trees & vegetation on human health, agriculture, horticulture and overall rural economy.

The plantation programme at UPS Depi was joined among others by Nari-Koyu MLA Kento Rina who along with students, school staffs and GBs planted tree saplings.

Rina appreciated the good effort of the school community and later announced to sanction some amount from his MLALAD fund for renovation of the school after seeing the dilapidated condition of some of its classrooms.

Rina also advised the teaching community and SMC members to cooperate with each other for better and smooth functioning of the school.
