CDPYK opposes CM statement

ITANAGAR, Jul 7: The Central Donyi-Polo Yelam Kebang (CDPYK), Pasighat has vehemently opposed the Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s statement to bring the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act 1978 to the Assembly to repeal it.

“It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister finds a probability of the Act in targeting a particular religious group,” stated the CDPYK in a release here.

The AP Freedom of Religion Act 1978, assented by the President of India, aims only to protect the indigenous people from yielding to allurements, fraudulent and forcible acts of conversion…therefore, it has nothing to do against any other religions.

By making an irresponsible statement, the Chief Minister has made his intention clear to marginalize the indigenous faith group of his own state and allow a free ride to the outside aggressive religions in the protected area of the Act, alleged the CDPYK.

It urged Khandu to withdraw his statement, saying instead of repealing the said Act, he should work for implementing the same to safeguard the indigenous faith and culture of the State.
