Munglang bags best fish farmer’s award

ITANAGAR, Jul 11: A progressive fish farmer from State, Chow Maha Munglang of Innao Khampti village under Diyun circle of Changlang district has been awarded with the best fish farmer’s award by the College of Fisheries (under Central Agricultural University, Imphal), Lembucherra, Tripura in recognition of his significant contribution and achievements towards augmenting fish production in the State. He was presented the award on the occasion of 18th National Fish Farmer’s Day on July 10 last.

Chow Maha Munglang had started his venture in fish farming activity during 1994 with composite fish culture in a small pond of 0.1 hectare water spread area and has been successfully doing the farming activity till date to its new height.

Currently, he possesses a total pond area of 1.5 hectare and is practicing improved extensive fish farming of Indian major carps and exotic carps producing table fish of 2,400 kg per hectare per year. Apart from this, he is also rearing 10 lakh of fish fingerlings annually which make him earn a net profit of Rs 8 lakh in a year.

Previously, the College of Fisheries, Tripura, had awarded two progressive fish farmers from the State – Likha Khamin of Yachuli, Lower Subansiri district in 2016 and Jumdo Jini of Biru village, West Siang district in 2017.
