NIRJULI, Jul 13: A day-long workshop cum sensitization programme was today held at Govt Sec School, Nirjuli with the theme “preventing teen substance abuse” for the school-going children from 8th to 10th standards by the MSW students of Rajiv Gandhi University and NERIM Group of Institution, Guwahati under the banner of One Stop Centre (OSC), TRIHMS, Naharlagun, supported by Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt of India, which is run by Oju Welfare Association (OWA).

The workshop was attended by around 80 students – both girls and boys. Trainee social workers provided all the relevant information about drug abuse among teenagers. Likewise, meaning of substance abuse, types of drug abuse, stages of drug use, internal and external factors related to drug abuse, effects of alcohol and other substance abuse, preventive measures and avenues to combat drug menace were addressed in the programme.

Besides, various other information regarding roles and functions of the One Stop Centre (OSC), Legal Aid Clinic with reference to Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 and POCSO Act 2012 were shared by the trainee social workers – Raju Ghising, Gopi Dirchi, Tomo Nayam, Alfred Tedam Wangsa and Chukhu Abu.

The aim of the programme was to spread awareness on basic education about drugs/substance abuse among teenagers and to combat drug menace.
