School awareness program on JJ Act, POCSO Act conducted

ROING, Jul 19: Awareness programmes for school children on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2015 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 were conducted in various schools of the district by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Lower Dibang Valley.

The objective of the programme was to create awareness on topics including services, statutory body, institutional care and non institutional care etc under the JJ Act and POCSO Act.

More than 600 students and teaching staff of Govt Sec Schools of Meka, Jia & Abali, Govt Middle School Yibuk-Rayang and Govt Middle School, Iduli were covered under the programme by teams led by Probation Officer and Protection Officer of DCPU.

Advocate Kange Tayeng (Legal cum Probation Officer) and Napi Meto (Protection Officer) delivered talks on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015, in which they focused on the core topics of rights and protection of children, categories of children (child in conflict with law and child in need of care and protection), the role of Juvenile Justice Board, Child Welfare Committee and Special Police Juvenile Unit.

Tokgul Badu (Counsellor) and Jomi Mimi highlighted the POCSO Act, 2012 and enlightened regarding good touch and bad touch, good secret & bad secret and POCSO e-box which will help children in need. Information on the helpline number and DCPU details were disseminated among the school children. (DIPRO)
