ITANAGAR, Aug 11: Ahead of 72nd Independence Day celebrations, the security forces have stepped up their security measures in the Capital Complex.

In view of the celebration of 72nd Independence Day, security has been beefed up in and around Itanagar Capital Complex, nakas have been established and additional security personnel deployed at all check points leading to the State capital, informed City SP M Harsha Vardhan.

He said with uniformed parade contingents busy with practice at the IG Park, Capital Police has stepped up its activity ahead of the Independence Day. Checking at various nakas and check gates has been intensified. Police has also increased the frequency of checking at hotels and guest houses to detect anti-social elements. Simultaneous patrolling at sensitive locations starting from Bandardewa to Hollongi is being conducted. Instances of public drinking in places like IG Park have come down as a result of such regular checking drives.

The SP said that increased police presence will be seen in the run up to Independence Day with surprise naka checking randomly at different places. He also said security forces are making elaborate arrangements to ensure peaceful celebration of Independence Day.

On the issue of ILP checking, the SP said it is continuing on daily basis. During the last 10 days, nearly 600 ILP violators have been detected and driven out of the capital. This is in addition to the people who are not allowed entry at check gates for not possessing valid ILP.

Vardhan cautioned the various groups against taking the law into their own hands. He has asked them to share information with the police. Only police and magistrates can conduct ILP checking, he clarified.
