Candlelight march taken out demanding arrest of culprit involved in hit & run case

ITANAGAR, Sep 13: The All Gohpur Youth Association, Ward No. 2 supported by several other organisations of Capital Complex took out a candlelight march here on Thursday evening, demanding immediate arrest of the Tempo driver allegedly involved in the hit and run case of one Takhe Rachi.

AGYA president Sorang Talo informed that an unidentified tempo had hit Rachi on September 7 at around 6.40 pm at Gohpur Tinali here. While onlookers came to help her, the tempo reportedly fled from the scene. The critically injured lady was rushed to the hospital but was declared ‘brought dead’.

A widow, Rachi is survived by four children, including three sons and a daughter.

Talking to reporters, the AGYA president said that they would be submitting a memorandum to the Capital DC, SP and local MLA demanding speedy investigation so that the culprit could be arrested at the earliest.

While claiming that many of tempo and trekker drivers indulge in alcohol consumption and do not have valid driving licence and not maintain their vehicles properly and violate traffic rules, the youth body requested the district administration to carry out routine checks on all commercial vehicles and their drivers for driving licence, working lights and indicators, and the overall condition of the vehicles.

It also sought installation of CCTV cameras at Gohpur Tinali for constant vigilance, permanent deployment of police personnel at Gohpur police beat point and construction of speed breaker at the tri-junction of Zoo road-Chimpu road-Ganga road.

Meanwhile, Itanagar Police sources said that a case has been registered at Itanagar PS vide case No. 253/18 u/s 279/34 IPC and an investigation launched, adding that the cops are on their toes to nab the culprit.

In the meantime, All Hong Employees’ and Pensioners’ Welfare Association (AHEPWA), Ziro deeply condoled the untimely demise of Takhe Rachi, W/o late Takhe Pombo of Hong village due to hit and run incident happened on Sept 7 at Gohpur Tinali, Itanagar.

The AHEPWA, which took part in today’s candlelight vigil here, alleged police inaction into the said case and demanded justice for the victim by arresting the Tempo driver and punishing him as per law of the land.
