IOC donates Tata Sumo to WASE

PASIGHAT, Sep 14: Immense contributions to make East Siang a drug-free district by the women’s voluntary organization, Women Against Social Evils (WASE), have finally been recognized!

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC)’s Deputy General Manager (Guwahati) Diganta Thakuria today donated a Tata Sumo Gold nine-seater vehicle to the WASE team, through Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering in presence of East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak, Director of Food & Civil Supplies Liyon Borang, ADC Tatdo Borang, HoDs and others at the DC’s office here.

Earlier, in an interactive meeting, the MP while appreciating the untiring efforts of the WASE members stated that they have set an example for the entire state and the nation as a whole. Easy availability and accessibility of drugs in NER was a big threat to the new generation but it was remarkably checked by our group of courageous mothers, stated Ering. They have touched new height of excellence and deserve more recognition, he added.

MP further informed that he had requested the Union Petroleum Minister to provide one vehicle for WASE and an auditorium for Ruksin Govt Hr Sec School for which Rs one crore was released by IOC and the construction work started under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

According to DC Tatak, the determined women have won the hearts of the people putting fear in the minds of drug peddlers. Their network continues to widen and saved many precious lives besides minimizing the burden of district administration. He asked the IOC officials to provide two ambulances for Bakin Pertin General Hospital and Ruksin CHC and one bus for WASE team under CSR.

Wase general secretary Joya Tasung Moyong said the members were fighting against all odds. We have already lost our near and dear ones due to drug abuse or alcoholism. We would continue till last breath to combat these evils and to make Pasighat a better place in live in for the present and upcoming generations. (DIPRO)
